OUR DOCTORS

Dr. Keith Niesenbaum is the owner and medical director of Crawford Dog and Cat Hospital. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania, School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984, he spent 4 years practicing in New Jersey while his wife Anne finished up her OB/GYN residency.  They relocated to Long Island in 1988 where he started Animal Bedside Care, a Veterinary House Call Service which is now an integral part of Crawford's services.  The hospital and kennel were purchased in 2002 and Dr. Niesenbaum is happy to be settled in to a permenant home.  As you can see from the photograph, he doesn't spend all of his time at work. Here he is at mile 15 of the 2006 NYC marathon.

Dr. Brian Spar is the newest addition to our medical staff.  After graduating from the Royal Veterinary College in London, he returned to his home town, Long Beach, with his wife, Angela, also a veterinarian.  They practiced together on the south shore for the past 5 years until we were able to convince him to join us in April 2008.  He and Angela have an adorable baby daughter, Ella, and two cats (Ainsley and Silvio - a former Crawford resident!).

Dr. Bartol Matanic has been at Crawford longer than any of us.  He holds down the fort 3 evenings a week and every other Saturday as well.  A graduate of veterinary school in Croatia, he has worked as a teacher at BOCES and as a faculty member at Downstate Medical College.  A perennial favorite at Crawford, he lives locally with his wife Mary and can be seen around town doting on his grandchildren.
